11 Plus Group Classroom Lessons
The 11 Plus (11+) is an academic selection exam taken by children in their final year of primary school, typically at age 10-11.
The exam is used to determine eligibility for admission to selective grammar schools and some independent schools in parts of England.
The 11+ exam assesses a child’s academic abilities across subjects like English, mathematics, and reasoning.
It is designed to identify the most academically gifted students who will thrive in a grammar school environment.
The 11+ exam format and content can vary between different local authorities and schools. Common components include:
- Verbal reasoning: assessing vocabulary, comprehension, and problem-solving skills
- Non-verbal reasoning: evaluating spatial awareness and logical thinking
- Mathematics: testing numeracy, arithmetic, and problem-solving
- English: examining reading comprehension, writing skills, and grammar
Passing the 11+ exam is highly competitive, with pass rates ranging widely across different regions. In some areas, only 10-20% of students qualify, while other regions see 30-40% pass.
The 11+ is a significant milestone that can greatly impact a child’s educational trajectory. Preparing for this exam often requires dedicated tutoring and practice to develop the necessary skills and confidence.
We successfully ran our first 11 + Club in 2016 and since then our clubs have proven to be very popular.
We now run them from 2 locations each weekend.
We help support children for the Haberdashers’ Adams and Newport Girls’ High School entrance exams, which children take when they are in year 6.
We use material from CEM as this is what is advised by both schools and our sessions are designed for CEM test style preparation.
As well as preparation sessions, we also run mock exam sessions nearer the time of the test, so the children are fully prepared to tackle the test conditions.
Our classes are for year 5 children, who want to sit the entrance exam when they are in year 6.
